Nikki Cherry (They/Them) M.Ed., NIC

Biography

Nikki Cherry (they/them) is a nationally certified, Arkansas licensed ASL interpreter currently living in NWA. They work remotely as a Designated Interpreter and own an agency – Specialized Interpreting Services, prioritizing historically minoritized folks. Nikki is excited to be back in Arkansas and again serving on the ARID Board of Directors, this time in a new role as Vice President.

Nikki primarily works with Deaf Professionals in research and science/healthcare related settings; they have been a Designated Interpreter for the past 10 years. They enjoy conference interpreting and as part of their agency offerings provide conference coordinating services.

Nikki has been a mentor for students and novice interpreters for over 15 years, and looks forward each semester to meeting new people entering and progressing in our profession. They primarily focus on BIPOC individuals and members of the LGBTQ community to help them feel welcome and encouraged to work in all desired settings.

Allyson Caruthers (She/Her)

Biography

Allyson (she/her) currently has a QAST2/2, Elementary EIPA 3.1, Secondary EIPA 3.6, and an Arkansas Interpreting license. After graduating from The University of Arkansas at Little Rock with her BA in ASL/English Interpretation, she has gone on to work in the local Deaf community in Arkansas. Currently Allyson works as an Educational Interpreter for a public school district in Central Arkansas. Her favorite setting to interpret in is Education and working with the DeafBlind community. Allyson has served on several committees for the Arkansas Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (ARID). She is currently on the Board of Directors for The National Association for Interpreters in Education (NAIE). Allyson is also the Volunteer Interpreter Coordinator for Special Olympics Arkansas (SOAR). Allyson currently lives in Central Arkansas. She has a Bearded Dragon named Anderson, and two dogs, Levi and Rudy.
